Moss Landing battery plant fire: Dolan Road closed, shelter-in-place lifted

A fire broke out early Friday, Sept 18, at the Vistra battery storage plant at 7301 Highway 1 in Moss Landing, inside the building damaged in the January 2025 fire. The Sheriff's shelter-in-place for the zones within a third of a mile (MRY-B047, B050, B053) was lifted at 4pm Friday. There are no evacuation orders. Dolan Road is closed at Castroville Blvd and at Elkhorn Road; Caltrans reports Highway 1 open through Moss Landing. EPA air monitors found no hydrogen fluoride and no PM2.5 exceedances on Friday. Officials expect the fire to burn itself out within about a day. If you smell smoke around Moss Landing or Castroville, close windows and doors and follow Alert Monterey County for updates.

“Directing: The Art of Telling a Fully Realized Story,” with Sundance 1995 Grand Jury Prize Winner, Writer/Director/Actor, Edward Burns ( The Brothers McMullen, She’s the One; Sidewalks of New York, Newlyweds, The Fitzgerald Family Christmas, The Family McMullen, Beneath the Blue Suburban Skies ). A director must fully envision the whole story of a movie well before filming starts, setting the tone, pace, and style of the story. What is the color palette of the film? The setting? Is the lighting soft or harsh? Camera angles? Musical Score? Does the sound help tell the story when there is no dialogue? Does the point of view propel the story forward? What suits the story best? What do the actors need? Do they need help finding the core truth of their characters or do they need you to step out of the way? A talented director knows how to problem-solve these and countless other questions on the fly. And no two directors will solve the story math the same way. Hear Edward Burns share his thoughts on this fascinating, highly personal art form that he does so well. Moderated by CIFFest Co-Directors, Lawrence Roeck and Annette Andersen Caton, and Producer, Adrian Clark. This is a Do Not Miss Event. OPEN TO ALL PASS HOLDERS. Runtime: 1:00:00, Founders Theatre
